About Our Speaker Tom Gray
Tom Gray is a internet marketing expert who provides his clients coaching and consulting services in the use of Web2.0, email, search and other internet assisted technologies to attract visitors and convert them to customers and prospects.
Tom built his first web site and ran his first email marketing campaign in 1995 to gain customers and competitive advantage for the IT consultancy that he ran at the time. Five years later, having sold his firm for too much stock (it tanked) and not enough cash, he hung out his shingle as an internet marketing consultant.
Among his first clients were speakers such as Eric Chester of Generation Why; Laura Stack, The Productivity Pro™, Jeff Yalden and Mark Sanborn. Tom has worked with firms as diverse as a molybdenum mining company, an aircraft hangar builder and a medical clinic to help drive traffic and build business.
He lives in Denver, CO with his beautiful wife of 26 years and a very cute Corgi puppy named Theodore Bear. So many of us have our own styles of networking, and our own way of sorting through new people that approach us.
One question that I have, is that if we try is it not possible to find something in common with every other human being today? It may be a hobby, a favorite movie or author. It could be a common feeling that we have in our family, with out loved ones. It could be frustrations over the economy, or a puppy that keeps making a mess in the house. If you are the richest, well bred person in the world, you still have some things in common with anyone else that you could meet.
We have been taught to be private, to be wary of strangers. I understand people that are cautious. One thing that I want you to consider, is that you never know what wonderful new connections are right around the corner.
Please remember that the best connections are a relationship first. If you push someone with your sales message, you will probably never get to know them. If someone gives you warning signs, just back off. Be considerate of others. Many times you are networking with someone as they are working or if they are checking up on messages at home, during their family time.
My point is that no matter how much we put on our networking profiles, we may still have many interests in common with each other that will only come out with discussion and further friendly contact. It is really worth it to have new and amazing networking contacts and friends around the world.
Give each other the benefit of the doubt whether they seem very different from you by culture, socio-economic status, education, or religion. If they are lovely and friendly, you can learn a lot from every new relationship!

Learn two new professional skills a month in 60 minutes total! If you are in business, or just interested in the world, you need to be literate in the current world of profiles, online connections, and blogging.
I know, you are worried that you don’t have enough time. I know that you think that you don’t have anything interesting to say…..
It is just like any skill set, you learn and you practice.
We used to tell people that you had 90 seconds to make a first impression when you met someone. Well, that really isn’t true anymore. The impression is made online BEFORE you get to meet someone. If you don’t control the information that is on Google about you, then that is an impression in itself.
If you have a business, or are in the job market for a career, or you want a promotion, it is critical for you to learn to have an online reputation that is a good one.
You need to be on 3-5 sites at a minimum to start getting a good reputation. Good ones to start are Facebook, Naymz, LinkedIn, Twitter, and Plurk. You don’t have to do everything at once, and that can be adjusted based on your profession. There are tons of Social Networks. Learn one that you can meet some friends and people that you have something in common with first. Each one has a unique reputation and personality.
Have a good photo, it doesn’t have to be a professional photo, just one that shows your personality.
Take baby steps if you need to, but do get out into the world. The internet Web 2.0 can open up so much for you, your life, and your career!
