By definition, Grass Roots means the groundwork or source of something.
Therefore, something means anything; am I right?
You will find many political parties, factions, etc all using the term, Grass Roots. “We’re gonna grass roots this…”, “We’re gonna run a grass roots campaign…” Why does it always have to have a political conotation? It doesn’t.
Think about it. There are a lot of things that are groundbreaking that can be referred to as Grass Roots. I found a reference to a group online that is known as Grass Roots PR. They only advertise worthy businesses, musicians, bloggers, etc. for low or no cost. That is groundbreaking as it is hard to find people that will do that. After all we are all in for the buck, right?
I recently found on Craig’s List a barter agreement between a local organization who was offering an advertisement barter. I contacted them with an idea and it took about ten minutes for the overwhelming reply. Now I barter a simple voice ad of a community calendar in exchange for advertising on a website. That is grass roots. Our country was founded on trade and trade is bartering and that is all grass roots thinking.
Imagine what we could do if we bartered more. Think of the stuff that would be recycled rather than wind up rotting somewhere in a landfill. That reminds me of another great website for you, http://www.FreeCycle.org and yes that is a grass roots campaign. I applaud them for their efforts.
You get the picture…
George Bernard Shaw once wrote, “The only thing that we learn from history is that we have learned nothing from history”. Maybe you and I can walk together and change the world…in a grass roots sorta way…..
